@andyranimationsIt’s not "stealing. It's training. Human artists learn by repeated observation of existing works, and will re-use elements of the things they've seen when creating their own unique style. AI algorithms do the same thing. They're creating new, original works that have been informed by study of a mind-bogglingly huge set of images. If they were re-using the actual images, I might agree with you, but they're not. They're creating something new and unique. The processes in both the training of the data and using the software to make images fall pretty clearly under the protections of Fair Use. If someone violates copyright, they should pay the price for it, but that's not what's going on here. If artists didn't have other artists' work to learn from all of them would be drawing like a caveman. You've been "using" other artists' work your entire life without realizing it. AI doesn't steal. This argument has been had ad nauseum, and the Antis never get it. Imagine you have a picture of a dog, that has the tag, "this is a dog" The AI training is looking at that image of a dog > Adding noise to the image > Doing complicated maths during the noising to "understand what a dog is." It then saves the Math. The picture of the dog is never saved into the AI. This is why AI models can be 9 or so gigs large even after being trained on MILLIONS of images. The images are nowhere near the models. They just "learned concepts" or the closest equivalent to that we have with math. If you give the AI noise, and then tell it to give you a dog, it can work backwards from the noise using it's knowledge of "what a dog is" to give you a dog. If you teach it what a rainbow is, and what a dog is, you can make the AI produce something not seen in reality, a rainbow dog. There are legal cases about this. The AI companies have genuinely won all copyright claims by proving without a shadow of a doubt this is how it works. Who's replacing the human creativity? Is it the AI? No. The AI can't do anything on its own. It must be prompted. As long as a human has intent behind the AI, the tools output contain human expression and creativity. There's genuinely no avoiding this. So who's trying to replace humans? Businesses who want high quality at lower costs. AI has nothing to do with it. This is a capitalism problem and it's taken the jobs of elevator operators (back when they were pulleys), milk delivery men, newspaper delivery boys, and more.
