Well, if you can watch everything someone does online, one thing you could do is see what they post on social media.
You would need much more context than simply searching for guns, but there would be other indicators that could help you build a profile.
You don't have to do that, though, if teenage boys just can't get their hands on a real gun.
That would seem less dystopian that using a powerful AI to look through all of someone's electronic activity and make a threat assessment.
