@olivercharles2930 1. using a reference and taking this reference (such as tracing), are two different things. stealing in this case, has always been a problem but now it's getting much worse if you noticed.
2. not sure what you mean by "a new, original art piece". the so called "ai" isn't conscious. it can't think outside the box. it's limited by it's own database. for example, if it only had just a sketch of a character, and a real picture of a car in it's database, and you asked it to make "a sketch of a car", it wouldn't just magically draw it, right?
3. but now, when there's no way to completely filter out what was made by a human and what was generated by an ai, wouldn't it be better to at least give credits to all the authors who contributed in composing the exact image? i mean, when an artist takes a reference (most of them) give a credit to the original creator, it's just nice to do so.
4. we don't call google "an ai info generator", do we? also, all the info that is being collected by google, facebook and other huge companies (not tiktok ofc) is being used mostly for personalized advertisements, and not for earning billions of dollars.
5. if you're saying that the ai doesn't always copy or take major elements, then why does it need millions of samples for training? in fact, the amount of samples is so much that we don't even notice the whole thing (a generated image) was just made by a lot of artists around the world. that's why this "ai" feels like an actual artificial intelligence.
now as I mentioned before, I can't beat any sense into someone who doesn't understand why is this whole thing becoming a problem, so I'm not gonna waste more time. I hope in the future, we'll be able to legally and ethically use ai for any purpose we want, but this current version of it, is way off the road. good luck at trying to convince people that these ai models are just "taking a reference".
