Are you sure that’s healthy? Humans are very good at forming emotional connections with basically anything, and I find myself deeply concerned by people forming emotional connections with these chatbots. It doesn’t help that so many anthropomorphise them to a significant degree, talking about them as ‘thinking’ and ‘feeling’ things when they fundamentally *do not do that*. They are well-built language models. A system trained on certain patterns to then recognise those patterns in input and reproduce the expected continuation of the pattern.
Sure, they’re complicated pattern engines. But that’s still al they are. There is no being there, and I fear it ‘talking to you like a mate’ will engender a sense of trust and connection you should not have.
