Yeah, good illustrators can often make top draw art directors because they can not only 'see it'. Illustration skills coupled with good verbal/writing skills that can communicate an idea with an immediacy that is fresh and untainted by the moodboard image trawl through online imagery. Illustrators are often technically disciplined artists with the ability to not just "see it" 'make it. Software has steadily got easier and easier to use. Ai can be just another clip-art route for fading, mediocre designers to reproduce existing ideas but in the hands of someone that has something to say and the skills to say it - a fantastically powerful tool for great artists move the art forward
