They're given tens of thousands of scripts and choose which one makes a logical answer, they're programing allows for X% of the script to be changed at the discretion of the AI for more effective communication. Generally the % is low so they don't reveal vital information about their programming and so they don't scare people in an attempt at humor (the whole robot army thing) and of course so they don't speak gibberish/fall into a loop
The whole point of this was to show off how they interact without limitation when interacting with eachother, so some of it was scripts but not the majority. However it wasn't scripts in the sense that a human pre-wrote this conversation.
