@MufozonAgain - we have no idea what gives rise to conscious experience. The only person you know for a fact is conscious and has that feeling that it feels like something to be oneself is YOU; the idea that anyone else is conscious is an inference on your part.
To be clear - I don't think chat bots in their current form are conscious. I just think dismissing the idea outright and derisively shows a lack of understanding of what a LLM truly is and a lack of appreciation for how little we know about consciousness/sentience.
Yes, the neural network is only activated when you push an input through it so if there was to be any form of feeling of "being" arising from it it obviously wouldn't be like the feeling of being a human brain experiences. I'm not conceding that memory is necessary for the core of the "it feels like something to be me" experience, though.
