UBI is unsustainable. It’s based on the premise that a ruling class needs us to buy stuff. Even if they did, which they don’t, but if they did… it’s just a game of handing money in a circle hoping no one takes any for themselves.
A government, who are effectively the rich and powerful at that point, are going to tax some other group of rich and powerful people, who willingly hand over all of this money, which is then given to all of us, just so that we can give it back to the rich and wealthy in exchange for stuff that they don’t even need to make… because if you have an army of AI and robotic workers, why would you make stuff for other people when you can build yourself an entire city?
But let’s say for whatever reason, call it charity at that point, they keep making stuff for us and paying their taxes… the entire circular money handoff repeats again next month, and the next, indefinitely for decades or centuries to come?
