The alternative is a life worse than death. No one likes the modern world, observable evidence by the rampant unalive rate for young people, happiness metrics and quality of life. People hate the world so much they started to consider giving birth unethical and they are pretty much right.
If you think AI experts live shit and breathe hardcore math and code to become experts in a field that changes weekly only to be too mentally stunted to consider the ramifications of their actions then I'd say you're delusional. Yes they stopped and thought whether they should and the answer was yes. Or they wouldn't do it.
The current systems create miserable lives and people and when you have that you will inevitably have people that will risk it all for a chance to change things. After all these people can't ever truly die if the world never let them live in the first place.
