I don't use dedicated AI tools, but I've definitely seen the Google AI say things like "xyz hasn't been well studied, but..."
So it seems like it does say it doesn't know sometimes. However, it also usually follows that up with some kind of possible conclusion that isn't well supported. Some people I guess just assume that to be the answer and ignore the fact that it was prefaced with a statement of low confidence.
The format of this comment is kinda similar. I prefaced with information about how I am not knowledgeable about the broader AI landscape, and then provided an anecdote of my experience. My experience may or may not be representative, you can take it or leave it.
