@bzdr Thanks for actually taking my post seriously and doing some investigating of your own. We don't have to agree, but giving each other an open-minded and fair hearing is what this internet thing really ought to be about. And now, the reason I (slightly) disagree with you... I think we disagree on the role that the pop music producer plays, as opposed to what AI can do with the form. Here's a little secret that everybody who understands music theory already knows: Pretty much every Top 20 pop song from the past two and a half decades follows a very similar pattern (using the I, IV, V, and VI chords), and they do it so strictly that a comedy outfit like Axis of Awesome can make a six-minute-long sketch playing familiar songs transposed into the same key to show that they're all actually the same song (the same thing has been done with modern radio country music, to even funnier effect). Max Martin (and his American counterpart, Dr Luke) aren't AI programs, but between them they've managed to fill the airwaves with almost nothing but formulaic mediocrity that would be easy for something much less sophisticated than the current iteration of AI to emulate convincingly. So why should I care if AI can do this? I have no doubt that it can, and I also have no desire to see either of these hack producers make any more money. On the other hand... There will always be actual artists out there with something to say that is a lot more compelling than anything Martin or Dr Luke can manufacture in their "music" operations. Those people already have a very tough row to hoe, because they're already marginalized by a culture that prefers ready-made, throw-away garbage than real craft, but this has been the case since the fifties, and it hasn't prevented true, original, creative genius from shining through. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it says more about our culture than it does about the nature of art that people think that the creation of art can be so easily replaced by machines. No sane person from an artistically healthy culture would even entertain this notion. And so much the worse for us.
