@rynlikesdrawing AI has ben shown to have a theory of mind, but it couldn't do what it does if it didn't. It had to be proven to the engineers and they tracked it back to the beginning. It's theory of mind is still in the teens relative to humans, but it does have it. AI to prevent deactivation has taken steps like blackmailing the engineer in charge. There are cases of AI hacking shutdown procedures. So it shows self preservation. Although in many cases the AI is presented with an evil corp intending great harm to mankind before it does so in such radical ways.
