To clarify, AI could be more than capable of destroying all of humanity, and may even do so if not regulated. However, it would not be because it sets out to do so, but rather as a tragic side effect of it's main goal. An AI is infinitely more likey to send nanobots to harvest the iron from our blood because it wants to make paperclips than it is to kill us because it's "angry".
