This. There is a reason the companies behind machine learning image generators did not ask for our consent when they were scrapping data. They could have. There are so many classical paintings that are public domain. So many stock photos that are licensed CC0. Even I myself, would be interested in making images specifically to be used for that purpose. I'm sure many artists would have contributed. Instead, the least ethical and most profitable choice was made at the expense of everyone.
