Human error is currently responsible for the high number of people dying on Americas roads. That is a fact. The numbers are constant and are not trending downwards despite significant improvements in automotive safety. That is also a fact. Why this is socially acceptable is beyond me but I do not want to question this fact by now. From your and many other responses I can gather that fatal accidents in automated traffic are not acceptable. You will agree with me on that, so lets take this as a fact, because again I do not want to question why things are like they are. To my prediction: Automated traffic will replace human controlled traffic sooner or later. There is not much you can do about it but you and the general public will not accept deadly accidents. There will be zero tolerance. As a result automated traffic will be so capable that it will be 99% safer than traditional traffic. Hundreds of thousands of lives will be saved. In 20 or maybe even 10 years you will think back on this conversation and think: "Damn, this crazy guy was right! How did he know that?" ;)
