Considering how humans lack common sense, it will be a tough road.
You are talking a fleet of autonomous cars that have driven well over 6 million miles with Waymo and Uber alone. They have had very few accidents amongst those miles. I thiknk it's been 3 metal bending ones including this tragedy.
To put that in perspective that's (at 14k miles a year, the average yearly drive distance in AZ) 428 human years of driving with 3 accidents. All with a system that has been on the road less than 2 years.
Most of us after 25 years have had 1 or 2 accidents, and this is excluding fault of the driver. I was rear ended 2 years ago on the freeway which is one of my 2 accidents in 20 years.
