How do you suggest they intervene? It’s all they can do to try to keep kids off social media. Things are moving so fast, and prior fiscal interventions were all based around a crisis that would mean-revert shortly after, not a structural change. Can they prop up the housing market, issue UBI, bail out private credit, build out our infrastructure to even vaguely stay competitive, grow mental health support for those who’ve lost meaning, plus a bunch of second-order effects I can’t even dream of - all concurrently? Oh, and bail out the insurance industry and every successive rural town getting flooded or burnt down with accelerating regularity. AI doesn’t have to take every job, just 5% and systemic leverage can do the rest. Good luck relying on government for this one.
