There was a quote from an old cartoon I used to watch occasionally. Paraphrasing here, but it was along the lines of "There will always be someone who does things the easy way. But that does not mean you should stop doing things the *right* way."
That might seem like another arrogant artist statement to someone on the side of ai-- and I get that-- but there really is a certain feeling of satisfaction that comes with the process, and knowing you worked hard to do it. It's not really an "I'm a better person" statement (at least that's not how I choose to interpret it) moreso a statement acknowledging the internal rewards of harder work. :]
