Simple to understand. One is just words, you know this person didn't write this story about them. You know that the story isn't real. I'm on the side that it's pretty shit to make NSFW fics of real people because we've seen the consequences of those actions (think Markiplier and Jacksepticeye's friendship temporarily dissolving due to Septiplier, or any other friendship that was made uncomfortable by shipping.) But it's not the same as deepfake p*rn. Deepfake P uses real human bodies, and then real human faces and combines them in a way that's nearly indistinguishable from reality and it's disturbed without any sign that it is not real. Deepfake P could take a man's face who's absolutely not gay and never consented to it and put him on the body of a gay man having s*x, then promptly leak it so now everyone thinks *this* about someone and has what they think is PROOF. And you cannot easily go "No this isn't me." Because what proof do you have? You can always point out "this doesn't have my mole" but now the next one they make of you has the mole. It'll only get worse and worse for people being used like this. That's where the issue is. One is still really uncomfortable and immoral but the consequences of it are mild in comparison to deepfake P. You can actively go "These people are writing smut of me and I didn't consent. It makes me uncomfortable." And that can't be discredited because yeah..they are. Women are saying "No, this is not me. I never wanted to be used in this context. I have avoided any s*xual content on my page, I never asked for this" and people could easily go "Oh now you regret posting your nudes huh?" Or treat it as if it was real because now you just can't tell. There's different levels of severity. Think of it as a scale -Thinking of someone se*ually- not a bad thing, attraction is human nature and when that's kept to yourself that's perfectly fine. -Posting constantly about your s*xual thoughts about someone(this is not "wow, -_-__-_- is hot." This is actively just posting "It would be nice for -_-___-_- to blow me"), messaging them about it (especially if they've said over and over that they do not appreciate that).- That's where you start to actually se*xualize people without their consent. You're exposing people who didn't think of that person like that, to thoughts like that and then the cycle will just start again. It's making it public -writing fanfics/making fanart- this is where it starts to become a genuine problem for alot of people. Though, this is easily not real. In both ways, this is not real. Humans can almost perfectly replicate a human but in art, there is always a way to know it's not real. Especially if you're making sm*t art of someone, it's usually not some extremely sophisticated Michelangelo level painter. It's se*ualizing people without their consent, exposing it to the public, and it makes those people feel extremely uncomfortable. But it is able to be discredited as not real. -Deepfake P can't, majority of the time. When it happened to Charlie, it was still infantile enough that you could easily go "oh yeah, not real." But AI is advancing at an alarming rate and now the pictures being produced are not distinguishable from reality. This is so different than anything above because it's human likeness is appalling. Even if you removed the intrinsic feelings that come with realizing the whole world just wants to s*xualize you when you've done nothing but exist and be a person for people to see. It can cost jobs, livelihoods, relationships. It can do all the same things that leaked revenge p*rn can do and that is awful when you did not ASK for it. The consequences of being a person on the internet shouldn't be that you can lose your jobs, friends, family, and support systems because someone out there wants to reduce you to their own lust. It shouldn't be accepted that this is just what you get. Especially because it's not just happening to famous people. It needs to be tackled at the source.
