Your research also uses other researchers work. I'm a researcher too, and I don't mind if my work is being used by other researchers. I would want them to cite me of course but I wouldn't be bothered if they didn't unless their work build heavily on mine without credit. For creators, and I'm a creator too, what I see is people saying they dont want their work used by others, it's been said in the podcast too, they said they don't want their work to be used to compete with theirs, that's selfish, because as someone used to the scientific community feeding of each other, this is just wrong. Their work is also derivative of others work, and unlike research they don't cite or credit. this is fine, because ideas can't be copyrightable and all that. but legal side aside, how about ethically? if most fantasy writers are pulling off Suzanne Collins and then complaining that someone else used AI to do the same thing, then ethically we're being hypocritical. When someone else used my research, they compete with me too, those are grants, funds etc, it's not like it's heaven for us and yet we don't mind. If people are bad, they're bad. In research as in arts. If they wanna rig their results they would, if they wanna plagiarize art, they would, ai or not, it's always been like that. But to say that art is different than science is just wrong. We either all allow progress and contribute to it or we all gatekeep and bring everything to a halt.
