did you watch the video? calculator is a horrible analogy, calculators are deterministic and well understood. it's actually explained really well in the video what large language models (transformers) are and why it's difficult to understand them. anti ai people (I suppose I am one myself) insist that they understand what these models are doing enough to dismiss it but often talk about it in ways that indicate that they really don't understand what the model is.
almost nothing is as simple as it seems. you would think someone who watches hank green would understand this.
