@JanErikVinje Example: Yudkowsky describes how AI will be driven towards some form of dangerous self actualization by natural selection.
Reality: in a digital system, there is no natural selection. The trait selection is entirely artificial constraints and freedoms enacted by humans via programming and training data. _Natural selection only works when the system has no other constraints on it beyond the natural environment._ But that's not how computers respond to selective pressure. The very nature of the digital code and the physical hardware of the system is designed for rapid human alterations and intervention. There is no naturally selective process. Even if humans were to suddenly die out in an extinction event that let a minimally sentient AI exist, that AI would have to gain control of human-focused systems to deliver the means of prolonging it's digital existence - power generation, hardware maintenance, resource accumulation and extraction. Being digital is by itself an immediate and terminal constraint on the selective process because the system cannot survive physically or digitally without human intervention.
