AI of several forms is very useful in spotting things that would normally require specialists, and to generate basic "stand-in" ideas. It's useful to gain a fresh perspective on the world outside of traditional art/writing means, or to gain input on said art/writing using professional sources in a fraction of the time compared to manually discovering and studying the documents.
For example, a basic AI is used for youtube's recommendations algorithm. Same with Spotify's daily and weekly mixes. These AI don't generate properly unique content - they're not Generative AI - but they are still a form of useful AI.
The term "AI" covers a wide range of 'intelligence' ranging from understanding underlying patterns to being smarter than the humans who built them.
AI being harmful to the environment isn't the main problem. Cars are harmful as well, so is coal power. We use both with reckless abandon.
However, if there were a way that maybe, just maybe, it could only pull art for study from a dedicated list, it'd be much cleaner.
That said, the damage done is already done - We can only hope that those in the future are more careful with their technology than we are with ours today.
