@AlanSanderson-p9r You posted a quote by Douglass Hoffsteader which was his view before the AI we have today. I replyed with his current point of after working with modern AI. He has totally changed his point of view. You ignored it. Why? I provided an actual authority in the field of AI. Its the same authority you held up. BTW, Penrose is not an authority in that field. BTW, how is a person tested for understanding? It can only be based on answers to questions. You can do exactly the same thing with AI. An AI learns from data. LLM are created by running reams of writing through a neural network. No human teaches an AI anything. The network is created by people, but the model is created by running data through the network. An AI learns grammar from exposure to human language. No one teaches it the rules of grammar. An AI figures out the rules of grammar on its own.
