They're referring to the cost of entry as a time cost. They want to be good now, not after thousands of hours of practice. But that's the thing. You want to be good at ANYTHING, you have to spend thousands of hours figuring it out. Even our most basic conscious functions took that. How long does learning to walk take? Programming, art, writing, if it is a skill, then a real person took and invested their time into getting good at it. AI is stealing that. Claim fair use all they want, AI is stealing the time we invest in our craft to churn out something specifically intended to directly devalue us. Time is the lynchpin in this whole debate.
