Plus the stats presented in the beginning basically proved that WITH all the "long tail" problems, the tech is already superior. Adopting it at mass scale would make it even better fast, because it would lead to a reduction in the human-driven vehicles, thusly creating a much more predictable environment. Once there are enough of those self-driving cars out there, it may even make sense to have them coordinate among each other.
