@strayiggytv A larger problem is the insurmountability of the issue. Preventing the spread of technology and software is historically impossible, literally every attempt to prevent the spread and use of digital technology has been met with catastrophic failure. Everyone who makes deepfakes is already far more than tech savvy enough to remain anonymous and continue to produce and share deepfake porn even if you do make it illegal, and there is nowhere near enough global interest in preventing the technology because, in all honesty, it is a first world problem. People in smaller, less wealthy countries will literally never care about this issue, and if you do somehow manage to get every developed nation to crack down on this issue, it will just go to countries that don't care about it because they have way bigger issues on their plate. I have 2 problems preventing me from being super anti-deepfake porn. For one, as I said, I am radically pro creative freedom. I don't know if there's a work of fiction a person could create that would push my boundaries on this stance. If you created a slasher film in which you very realistically portrayed the columbine shooting down to disturbingly gory details, I don't know if I would be against the production of said movie. The other problem I have is the logistics of the issue. A global ban on ANY technology is never going to happen. No single tech issue will unite every single country on the planet, no single tech issue is likely to even unite a majority of nations on the planet. I think it is a waste of time to pursue an issue that is logistically impossible to tackle. The deepfake singularity passed years ago, the window to stop it closed in like 2018, it's quite literally too late to put the lid back on the problem.
