You don't understand what's happening. AI does not replace people. These companies who laid off people actually lose their real production, and put the money they paid wages with into buying AI stocks. But in reality, none of the AI companies make a profit, they pay each other, and pretend that the single 20$ dollar bill they passed around 10 times is actually 200$. But eventually enough people will realise this, because so much production falls out of the economy that they can't ignore it, and this bubble will pop. After that, yes, actually government spending will be needed to recover things. Bailouts don't work. What you need is what FDR did with the New Deal, Ted Roosevelt tried with the Square Deal and Biden tried to do with the Inflation Reduction Act: invest government money to hire people in actually useful production, usually in infrastructure and education. For example free education has a return rate of average 8% for each year spent in education for the net economy. This means 160% return on investment for the government if they give a person free education from kindergarten to Ma/Msc. To bring another example from today: solar, hydro and wind turbines pay for their own prices in electricity within 5 years now, and that does not include the things which people do with that electricity, this is what the Inflation Reduction Act was actually about.
