I agree to an extent however I feel that writing “research” papers for history classes or other general education courses are completely unnecessary, especially if the courses are unrelated to your major. Writing papers is something I’ve come to expect in English courses but WHY the heck am I writing 1,500 word minimum research papers in non-English courses when my major is for health care administration?? I have enough critical thinking skills to figure out solutions to problems or to find a solution to a problem. I’m able to come to a logical and rational conclusion when given evidence-based facts. As a student with ADHD, writing papers sucks so bad and they give me major anxiety. ChatGPT has been a tremendous help when it comes to these types of assignments but I also don’t just copy and paste whatever the AI gives; I thoroughly review the output content and double check everything to make sure it is accurate and relevant to the assignment at hand. I still gain the relevant pertinent information and am able to make the executive decision on what my final paper will and will not include. AI can help as a writing tool for people going into non-writing related careers but it definitely should not be used to do ALL your assignments in every class because then what is the point of going to college? I’d argue that AI can help people who already have some degree of critical thinking skills and it helps to expand those skills, especially someone like me that has a learning disability (I know it’s not technically a learning disability but it definitely impacts my learning)
