Prioritize practice and try to use AI as little as possible. In my almost 4 years of programming the main thing I've learned is that learning how to program is not reading the answer, but GETTING TO THE ANSWER. And that is because, programming is not coding. Programming is the reasoning, the problem solving that comes before the code and then you apply that to the code to reach the final solution. A lot of beginners don't know that and so they focus on the coding aspect and start using AI everywhere but then when they get asked a question or when they try to build a project on their own, they're stuck and they realize they're not confident in their skills.
Prioritize learning by problem solving, coding and syntax is the easy part. The more you practice by building projects and by thinking for yourself, the better and more comfortable and more confident you will get in your own skills. As someone who learned before AI, competency is SO FUN. Once you feel confident that you can solve X problem or that you can learn X topic, it feels amazing. So, the best way to ACTUALLY learn programming is to practice, be consistent and think for yourself as much as possible. The more problems you solve on your own, the better you will get at programming, because as a developer you don't get paid to debug or to code, you get paid to solve problems.
