I mean, there are some people who are so Calvinism pilled they're worried about what activities people will literally just, do with their time, and that's obviously silly. You're right, and also, people like to do stuff, some of which is presently work. If every job paid the exact same for the same hours / effort somehow, people would do creative and service and science work. I don't think "ai" is going to replace everything, and I also think there is a precarity to this possible transition. When factories made production faster, it's true that goods got cheaper, but wages didn't improve and neither did work hours, production just increased. We're exponentially increasing productivity all the time, and quality of life may improve a little, that's obviously good, but we don't work a tenth of what we did in 1900. I'm really for UBI, this is what Graeber says in Bullshit Jobs too, but companies would rather employ you for catastrophically low wages and just make you do more and more menial tasks. There'll be jobs left, there will be roles for servants. Most jobs are already service. And also, as much I'd love everything humans don't feel like doing to be fully automated, the results are worse. Like, hand made things are higher quality than factory made things. Unless it's just math, the output of "ai" will be shittier than if a human did it. I think we should do UBI anyway, but I don't actually want to live in the enshitification post-apocalypse any more than is necessary.
