There are some problems with the current medical profession.
1. The practitioners are scarce. I know of plenty of places where the nearest doctor is 100's of km away, so getting to see one is difficult. Having a medical AI openly available would mean many conditions could be treated without needing to visit a doctor.
2. The practitioners are in it for the money. An openly available medical AI will increase the availability of medical care to many people who currently cannot afford it.
3. The practitioners are very traditional and conservative. They tend to use old tried-and-tested practices which don't necessarily benefit the patient. One example I know of: a friend was diagnosed with prostrate cancer; the surgeon wanted to operate, with the outcomes of degraded quality of life, and cost (see 2 above); however, a doctor friend advised them to try proton-beam therapy (which the surgeon didn't like) - which my friend did, resulting in the desired outcome at lower cost and no adverse impact on quality of life.
Medical AI won't solve all problems, but it will help solve many which aren't being solved now.
