@AccentedCinema
You are the one misunderstanding my point, im not implying about the "not art" aspects, but the idea that it distance us from the art, the daggerfall city vs wilderness tangent. My point is that connection doesn't solely define art, there is also evocation.
In house of the flying dagger there is a scene, where close friend now enemy face off, and the scene is held long enough to be noticeable, going from spring to winter, the warmth of their relation going to the coldness of the heart, except it wasn’t intention. In get out, there is a scene where the girl eat the cereal appart from the milk, it seems like it was intended to underline the movie thesis, colored cereal and white milk, so obvious, except that not, it wasn't the intended reading. If there was no intention does that mean there was no meaning?
When new artform appear, tge first phase appear as shallow when it's experimentation that push what can be done and reseting old taste, for a moment, until exploration leave for exploitation, and exploitation justify itself with prestige.
I would say people confuse meaning with institutions, and rebellion against institutions as identity. Face with something not yet institutionalized, from which they can't properly rebel, they end up defending the old order of things. Human laugh, cry, has trauma, things go viral because they evoke these human emotion, but everybody can laugh, cry and react to trauma, that's connection, but it's too mundane, it doesn't let us feel special, therefore once the transient human emotion fade, we reject it because we want to feel special, that's hypocrite but that human too.
About the photoshop thing:
Ai art isn't mechanically new in any way. From a craft perspective, that's a source like any other, and that's a rendering method. People have been using automation in art through various forms: template, canon, genre, rules, random picking, formula,l. Procedural art predates experiment with computer like AARON from Harold Cohen, or maeda, or david cope. Every of thesevfirm remove decisions from the human, whete to place the subject? Use rule of 3, on the left looking to the right to express the future, to the right looking at the right to express the burden of the past, blue to express melancholy, art has so much rules it's been automated multiple time through history.
And ai art is still human art, because human art is the source, the training data set is curated to produce human appealing art from human specifications and bias, that's why it doesn't produce alien composition with character weirdly cut out of frame, it's human culture distilled, it's collective rather than individual. It's recognizable because the source is human, not machine. We connect to the collective of human rather than the individual. But so is art book telling us the distilled techniques ofbold master. It's not new.
