Does it really matter? Sure an AI might not have a soul and so it can't truly feel emotion, but the neural network would still output some sort of emotional state that it acts out, and would change its future actions.
Whether or not its emotions are real or if it truly feels them, it *will* react as though they are real, which I think is important.
