@Soulstarrr Right and that's the point. The art world is full of drivel that isn't "art" and it's propped up by elitist gatekeeping smug scumbags who will lecture us for thousands of hours about how we aren't smart enough to 'understand'. Those are the people who are now feeling attacked by AI art, because it really basically just shatters an image of self-importance, that they thought themselves some kind of elevated human.
Do you think these same people had such long passionate monologues on the plight of the working man being put out of work by automation? I'll tell you, it's the exact opposite. Liberal art snobs sneer down at people who don't have at least two college degrees. They congregate on places like Reddit and talk about how they can't wait for all those disgusting rednecks to be unemployed and on the street doing fentanyl.
Jackson Pollock was a hack who was propped up by pretentious art snobs who would wax pages and pages poetic about how him pouring paint through a strainer and randomly dumping it on canvas was some kind of hyper-deliberate expression of the human soul. We were supposed to believe that >literally< every single blop of spattered paint was intentionally placed by him.
But Jackson Pollock never once explained this. He just did it, and art snobs put seven-figure price tags on it. Any machine could have done it, and nothing would have been lost in the translation, in part because Pollock himself never could have explained it.
If AI art is so catastrophic to the art world, maybe the art world should have a moment of self-reflection on what it actually means to be an artist, that isn't built on the last century of postmodernist drivel.
If we focus on static 2D art - paintings and such - then the reality is that it's been welll over a century since any artist has ever produced anything that evokes the actual emotion and soul that they claim is crucial to art.
None of us are claiming the Sistine Chapel isn't art. What we're claiming is that no artist on the planet has had the ability or care to paint the Sistine Chapel, and that the entire art world has been deconstructed into just degenerates drawing furry porn, so nothing could possibly be lost.
If AI art requires artists to realign and focus on the human aspect, so be it. Until then, well, last week an artist sold an 'invisible sculpture' for $18,000. You'll never get me to respect artists for as long as artists are not ashamed to do things like that.
