The kicker is we will never be able to know for sure if an AI is sentient or not. I can’t even prove other humans are sentient. I can only know that I am sentient within the environment I exist. We can’t even confirm wether or not our universe is real in a concrete sense or if it a hologram perpetuated from 2 dimensional data or if we are one massive simulation in a advanced beings computer system lol. We build our world view on a extremely narrow band of senses while being unable to even sense a vast majority of the universe we live in. Alas if one deeply thinks about these things for to long it will drive them mad.
