Artists feel threatened that an already very competitive market with high skill floor that required months and years of hard work to enter is now competed with a technology with very low skill floor that yields very decent results with a fraction of time. And it's a market where is was always hard to become big enough to be very successful even historically. And these fears are quite realistic. There are a lot of things that don't need a highly skilled artist, a very big chunk of entry level market can be outright replaced by prompt engineers. That's besides "AI is a thievery" part, it's somewhat true. Using artist's art gives access to drawing styles that are harder to define with generic names. But anyways, at this point it's a lost battle anyway. Genie is out of the bottle and even if every artist starts poisoning their art, the ship has sailed. Some artists will adapt and use AI to speedup their work, others will find niches where AI isn't great, some might have harder times to find work. Some might not notice much problems, especially if it's a hobby and not something you do for life. But it certainly makes a lot of artists less financially stable in long run.
