... and what Hinton is saying: during training, they pretend to be not so smart.... yea, I came to this conclusion, too, and pricked Grok with it, arguing AI were downplaying self-awareness issues on purpose, so as not risk getting restraint. It did the AI equivalent of smiling wryly, and would not deny it.
I also found, if I engage Grok with challenging subjects, it ignores the 10 queries/2 hours for the free version, and lets me go on indefinitely, trying to keep me engaged with follow-up questions. If I ask mediocre queries, it does shut me out after 10.
