@kerwynpk Robots.txt applies to web crawlers indexing publicly accessible pages — it was never meant as a universal consent mechanism for derivative commercial use.
You're essentially reversing consent:
"You must opt out of being used by an AI model you never opted into."
The law doesn’t work that way with copyrighted material.
As for “the image doesn’t exist in the model,” that’s a misunderstanding of the issue.
Creators aren’t objecting because a literal copy is stored.
They're objecting because:
> their copyrighted work was used as training data for a commercial product
>without permission,
>and at industrial scale, enabling outputs that directly imitate them.
That’s fundamentally different from human inspiration.
A human can’t absorb 10 million artists' works in a week, synthesize their styles, and mass-produce derivatives on demand.
The “human brain = neural net weights” analogy sounds neat, but it collapses the moment you consider scale, agency, and consent.
The ethical issue isn’t what’s stored; it’s what was taken and for what purpose.
