And just how does this differ from how "abstract thought" is created in humans? Keep in mind that the AIs don't just give you the image in it's database that most closely resembles what your prompt is, it is generating new art in its understanding of what that prompt is, using what it has "seen" as a reference, that is why most AI generated art has some weird glitches that often make it possible to distinguish (for example the arms of two people merging instead of the two hands intertwining only for two of the 10ish background characters). I am not saying that as long as people need to earn a living there doesn't need to be a way to ensure artists their income (although as artists aren't exactly the only jobs that are at risk because of technologies advancements, so we really need to figure out something there soon), but I do feel it short-sighted to just claim some superiority, because we are human and they are fancy algorithms.. In the end AI is crafted closely to our current understanding of the brain and as our understanding of the brain continues to grow, so will the possibility to shortcut some, for the purpose, less than optimal processes.
