Well this whole AI thing is kind of a problem of average people having a little knowledge but then expounding on it. In that AI consists of a neural network there is no logic in it. The decision-making is tied up in weight values that connect nodes, the same way the neurons are connected in the brain. So you can't look at it and see how it is making decisions. There's no programming logic there. So she does has the inkling of the idea. (I am a software engineer but not an expert in AI. As we all know, software takes longer than you think.)
But there's also a bit of fear-mongering that goes on because it's still very far from general intelligence. Look at Tesla's full self driving. They still have not gotten it to work as good as they want and as good as a human. And this is a task that almost all humans can do with ease. And it's only _one_ specialized task. AI lately has been good at extracting from existing text and summarizing it. But it's another wall to get past to get to general intelligence.
