Dude, I'm in technology. I write technical specs for the development of software. The technology is only as good as the developer, the ppl writing the specs and the testers. ALL OF THESE PPL can be racist OR have racial biases. This is a KNOWN issue among these software companies. We literally talk about it in conference to try to come up with solutions for why facial recognition AND AI technology is so off when it comes to pigmented ppl. There's studies out there too. It takes NOTHING to read/research before making statements like that. Also they used VIDEO of the woman that returned phone and then facial recognition to match it with pictures already in their system.. this would be head shots, not fully body. There was no reason to ask the victim if the person was pregnant or NOT because the video didn't indicate it AND the picture was 8 YRS OLD that they showed him. Comprehension skills can be learned. This was piss poor detective work, combined with BS technology. The "Detective" should have thought, I have an "old picture" of this person.. let me get a current one to show the victim. Also, how about calling the suspect or going to the house BEFORE a warrant and asking where they were the day the phone was returned.. seeing if they have an alibi? At that point they would have SEEN that the woman was pregnant and went and watch the video again to see if the suspect looked pregnant. They deserve to be sued AND they should be educated on HOW to use facial recognition outcomes as a source of information, NOT the only information as it's far from 100% accurate.
