@CactusMuffin I do agree with you, but I want to add that not all generative art is AI slop. Yes, the vast majority is, due to the ease of use and accessibility, but there are people out there putting real effort into their work. Most people are just familiar with things like DallE, Midjourney and ChatGPT's quick and easy regurgitation of their respective image models, but those come out looking like the slop that was put into them. However, there is consideration being put into real work. Things like controlnets for pose, ipadapters for adjusting style, LoRA for finetuning colors, contrast and complexity. Changes in tags to control lighting environments. Different samplers and schedulers to modify the way the system constructs visuals from the noise. Sketches for outlining shape, masks and regional prompting to create contrast and selectively adjust content. This is just scratching the surface of what actual generative works require. These are all done by the person, not the image model. Every single choice is made with intent, and a final image is in mind, but a different skillset is applied to making it. Much like using a musical synthesizer instead of learning to play a guitar. The goal of these people, who put real effort, isn't to use models to scrape non-consenting artists and regurgitate art "in the style of", but to use a tool they've learned to express themselves in a way they otherwise cannot. Which is one of the principles of actual art. To this end, the resulting image isn't art because it's PRETTY, it's art because it represents the effort, time, practice and intent of the person who worked on it. The content becomes an expression spoken through a different language. One that hardly anyone yet understands because the vast majority of people using these tools just want quick easy slop to say "hey look what I did" and get fake brownie points on the internet for clicks.
