It already does since about 250 years.
About 250 years ago almost all labour was needed to grow food and feed the population.
Without automation we still would be mostly farmers.
Automation made it possible to increase our living standards by using the freed labour for doing other things and continue automation in those new fields too.
This is what capitalism is all about: automation and ownership of the automats.
