The argument about payment is not merely the idea of a lost job (i.e. someone will now not be paid because the company uses AI, which is as you say not the case in your situation)
The argument about payment is that the model is only able to create good art because of the many artists whose work make up the database, so you are in fact using the artists' work without paying them. It's that the work was used in the creation of the database, which is what Steve primarily argues is immoral.
(I am not here to convince you whether it's OK or not, morally speaking, I'm just trying to explain the claim to you.)
