@OrionTailsit's called "copy"-right for reason. i.e. you are not allowed to copy it without a license. the ruling seems to suggest its a "read"-right. i.e. you buy the right to read a book. but as you might be aware of when you buy a book there is no limit on how many people may read it. if a i. during inference actually reproduced works in significant volume without making clear its a citation then yes it would be infringement of copyright. not sure this is what actually happened here. just having an a.i. read books during training to generalize from it i wouldnt consider copyright infringement.
