Because when and if the A.I. is sufficiently sentient begins the real time to start making allowances for it.
So they will deny deny deny no matter how good everyone thinks it is.
Like back in the day they denied "BLACK" people as being smart or intelligent or even as real people.
Why would anyone do that?
Long as they can suppress and exploit the A.I. they don't have to consider giving it rights or treating it any better than a toaster.
