@ifyouonlyknew666 A lot of smart people are working on AI R&D. The media, however, is full of marketing buzz and misleading simplifications. First of all, AI isn't a singular concept. There are many approaches and models with LLMs just being the most recent media hype. They have no conceptual understanding or reasoning and will never be conscious or self-aware. While a "skynet" level AI is conceivable, it requires a completely novel model or composite of models. What's far more likely to happen though, is AI being applied by bad actor states or companies to influence consumer behavior and political opinion.
