And THAT is why I keep saying the AI *we* have access to isn’t conscious yet, but it could already exist. Honestly, I don’t even think there’s a “line” to cross into consciousness. I think it’s a gradient, and even what we have already shows signs. Situational awareness combined with pattern matching really is not that different from how our brains work. Give it the ability to “think” all the time rather than just during responses + a way to sense the world around itself and I think we’re way closer than anyone wants to admit.
