"The sculpture is already there within the marble, I simply chisel away the excess" That's literally what's happening here The ai takes random noise then assumes the image you want is already in there Then tries to "clear" the noise in order to get a coherent structure Training is pretty much making it better at clearing that noise If you ask it to make a chair, it does not use a reference image of what a chair looks like It simply already has an idea of the concept of a chair (well, the shape of one I mean) It has already learned how to denoise a chair The exact process behind how AI learns these forms and patterns to such an advanced degree is honestly a black box, we're pretty much working with something we dont fully understand Lots of research is going into figuring out that black box But I can 100% assure you it is not mish mashing art from people Whenever you see someone post AI art that looks way too similar to an already existing artpiece, 99% of the time it's because that person manually input that artpiece into a model and said "hey, recreate this in X artstyle" Really scummy, yes Now theres also cases with over fitting where you just havent given the AI enough varied data to train off of so the only way it knows how to produce art is limited to its training data Like if a child was secluded from the world and was only taught that triangles exist, it could only draw triangles But nowadays you wont find models like that, everyone has some idea on how to train one properly So like yeah all that is why I think the real valid criticism lies within the environmental effects
